More than 100 years producing Grandes Reservas.
Jeffrey Lindenmuth, Wine Spectator’s executive editor, comments that “our list is a broad picture of the year in wine, and we are delighted to share our top selections, which include established winemakers and new award winners”.
These 100 bottles were chosen from over 9,200 wines through blind tastings conducted by Wine Spectator editors. Reserva de la Familia Gran Reserva Brut Nature was distinguished at number 43 on the list, its selection being based on four criteria: quality, value, availability and the “X factor”: a relevant and captivating story behind the wine.
The “Top 100 Wines” list has been an annual event since 1988, highlighting the best of wine, the wineries worth following closely in the future and the producers and wines that Wine Spectator’s editors are most excited about.
Juvé & Camps Reserva de la Familia Gran Reserva Brut Nature 2018 is described by the taster as a sparkling wine that stands out for the vivacity and delicacy of its bubbles, in addition to its balanced acidity and its hints of macerated cherries, apricot and almonds.
A pioneer of the brut nature gran reserva style almost 50 years ago, it is made with the traditional varieties of the Penedès, Xarel-lo, Macabeo and Parellada, from the estate vineyards in Espiells, Can Massana and La Cuscona. Grown organically and harvested by hand, it is a wine with a marked Mediterranean identity and essence, with no added sugars after disgorging, in order to preserve the honesty and expressiveness of the terroir it originates from. In its blend, it combines around 70 different base wines selected for their maximum quality and excellence. It is aged for more than 36 months on lees to achieve an exquisite balance that will seduce those who uncork it.
The full “2023 Top 100 Wines” report will be released in the December issue of Wine Spectator.
