Juvé & Camps has presented its new Milesimé Parcelarios collection, three sparkling wines that interpret the terroir with a distinctive Mediterranean touch and the experience of the century-old company. Milesimé Xarel·lo 2017, Milesimé Chardonnay 2018 and Milesimé Blanc de Noirs 2018 Pinot Noir form a trio in which the soil, variety and vintage display their purest synergy in terms of balance and elegance, the hallmarks of the firm. This collection of grandes reservas will only be produced in exceptional years, moments at which the harvest achieves an unrivalled state of grace and it’s possible to make wines that convey a unique bond with their origins: “Only when the harvest delivers us the finest grapes do we make Milesimé, a gift from nature that we interpret in a manner that’s faithful to the terroir and the style of Juvé & Camps”, explains winemaker Toni Cantos.
The plots from which each of the Milesimés come from are located on the Espiells estate, owned by Juvé & Camps, while the Xarel·lo for this Milesimé 2017 vintage comes from L’Olivera. This is a region with deep sandy soils rich in organic matter located between 170 and 200 metres above sea level and east-facing; the plot from which the Chardonnay for the Milesimé 2018 comes is Can Rius, a fine-textured soil with high clay and silt content lying at between 90 and 100 metres above sea level and south-facing; and the Pinot Noir grapes for the Milesimé 2018 Blanc de Noirs come from El Rieral, a plot with sandstone and limestone soils lying 191 metres above sea level and west-facing.
The excellence of these three regions is blended with the expertise displayed by Juvé & Camps in interpreting them and expressing the character of the vineyard, together with an ageing process that lasts up to 36 months and adds complexity and maximum balance to the wines.
Two excellent vintages, three outstanding Milesimés Gran Reserva
The 2017 and 2018 harvests are the ones that have been chosen to launch this collection, as they were extraordinary years with ideal conditions on each of the plots for the production of these sparkling wines.
The 2017 vintage was characterised by vigorous vines that developed in perfect condition thanks to the previous autumn’s rains and the water reserves contained in the soil. The harvest yielded high-quality fruit with magnificent balance, splendid Xarel·los ideal for making a long-aged sparkling wine that remains faithful to the expression of its origins.
The 2018 vintage was abundant and generous with the Can Rius Chardonnay, which yielded perfectly healthy, balanced fruit resulting in juicy, pleasurable wines. As for the Pinot Noir, the vintage required the utmost care to preserve the identity of this delicate and ethereal grape and to obtain a ripeness expressed in the wine with a lively and authentic character and a unique accent.
Tasting notes
Milesimé Xarel·lo 2017 Brut Nature Gran Reserva
Bright straw yellow in colour with golden hues, a consequence of its long ageing process, it releases tiny bubbles and inexhaustible effervescence. Its intense aroma laced with white fruits and fennel evokes the landscape of L’Olivera with its hills and farmhouses and a Xarel·lo in all its splendour. Its wild, fresh fragrance is tinged with appetising nuances of freshly baked brioche and light creamy touches typical of a long ageing process. The mouthfeel is ample, the palate allows itself to be caressed by the vibrant and velvety feel of its bubbles, creating a voluptuous, pleasant sensation. It’s rich, expressive, juicy and long-lasting like the taste of a great re-encounter.
Milesimé Chardonnay 2018 Brut Gran Reserva
Straw yellow in colour with a golden iridescence, its full bubbles catch the eye as it’s poured into the glass. It’s harmonious, releasing a gentle melody of fleshy, fruity hints of melon and vineyard peach and flashes of grapefruit. It expresses itself slowly and seductively with hints of spices, honey and pain grillé and light lactic nuances that shape a rich aromatic palette. It offers the palate an explosion of flavours that gradually fill the mouth. Its texture is gentle, silky and creamy, with a generous, full finish of wonderful sensuality.
Milesimé Blanc de Noirs 2018 Brut Pinot Noir Gran Reserva
At first glance it appears to be a golden sparkling wine, but when the light shines on it you’ll perceive the soul of the Pinot Noir giving off an exuberant nose; the white and stone fruits are enveloped by attractive aromas of red berries and freshly-picked cherries, blossom honey, pain grillé and a cheerful citrus touch that’s sure to arouse your curiosity. The juicy red fruit reappears in the mouth, dancing to the untiring beat of the bubbles and forming a creamy, mineral, fresh and elegantly intense whole.
