Aged for 60 months, the 2018 vintage reveals remarkable character, elegance, creaminess, and a fine, persistent effervescence.
Gran Juvé & Camps, one of the most iconic creations of this family-run winery, celebrates the launch of its 2018 vintage. With this release, Juvé & Camps marks 52 vintages of its exceptional Gran Reserva Brut cuvée, a wine that has captivated connoisseurs for over half a century with its impressive 60-month ageing process.
The story of this Gran Reserva, originally known as “Gran Cru,” dates back to its first vintage in 1972. A true pioneer in extended aging, Gran Juvé & Camps was the first sparkling gran reserva wine released by the winery, crafted exclusively from its finest parcels, Espiells. From the beginning, Juvé & Camps recognised it was crafting a wine destined to impress, inspiring the creation of an exclusive bottle design that has, over time, become a hallmark of this signature sparkling wine’s distinctive personality and character.
“Gran Juvé & Camps is a demonstration of precision and respect for the land and its raw ingredients, leaving a lasting impression on those who taste it and evoking memorable experiences,” explains Meritxell Juvé, CEO and fourth-generation family member. She recalls fondly that “my father particularly enjoys pairing it with hearty, home-cooked dishes, though of course, no stew compares to the ones his grandmother used to make. A grandmother is always the best cook,” she adds with a smile.
This wine was born in what is considered the rainiest vintage in the region over the past decade—a climatic challenge successfully overcome thanks to the exceptional work in the vineyard by the viticulture team, led by Pep Jiménez. The result was a generous and fresh harvest, yielding wines with perfect acidity for excellent ageing potential during extended maturation.
The grapes for Gran Juvé are hand-picked and vinified with utmost care, with each of the four varieties fermented separately, and the Xarel·lo and Chardonnay further aged on lees. Finally, during the art of the blending, each variety —Xarel·lo, Macabeo, Chardonnay, and Parellada – is carefully selected from the best vines to ensure an elegant, refined creation, a true masterpiece showcasing the resilience of Juvé & Camps’ 35 to 50-year-old vines. This vintage also presents an ideal acidity level, perfectly suited to long ageing.
On the palate, Gran Juvé’s sophisticated bubbles reveal notes of stone fruit and toasted almond on the nose. The wine’s balanced acidity, full body, and lingering finish with toasted undertones previously sensed in its aroma make it a gastronomic delight. A wine of pure sophistication, perfect for pairing with fine cuisine.
