At Juvé & Camps, we understand viticulture as a long-term commitment to the land. Respecting the vineyard, the landscape, and natural resources is part of our way of working and translates into very specific technical decisions in the field. One of the most important is the application of respectful pruning.
What is respectful pruning?
Respectful pruning is a pruning system we apply in our vineyards to promote their longevity and vitality. It allows the vines to grow more naturally, remain healthy for more years, and provide us with higher-quality grapes, while respecting the balance of the vineyard and its surroundings to the fullest extent.
Conscious viticulture
Our viticulture team, led by Pep Jiménez, works continuously to implement practices that protect the health of the vineyard and strengthen its natural balance. Respectful pruning is one of them: a technique that recovers traditional knowledge and avoids aggressive interventions on the plant.
Unlike intensive pruning, which creates large wounds and accelerates vine aging, respectful pruning seeks to accompany its natural growth. Severe pruning causes an accumulation of dead wood, which can become a gateway for diseases and significantly reduce the vineyard’s useful life.
With a gentler and more conscious pruning, the plant better preserves its lymphatic system, essential for the proper circulation of sap. This allows the vine to be better prepared to face water stress and other adverse conditions, remaining stronger and more balanced over the years.

The result is a longer-lived vineyard, with fewer wounds, greater adaptability, and a production of higher-quality grapes. Additionally, it is a practice aligned with sustainable, efficient, and profitable viticulture, prioritizing the plant’s health over immediate yield.
For Juvé & Camps, respectful pruning goes beyond an agricultural technique. It is a way to honor the land we work, to protect the natural environment around us, and to preserve the legacy of those who cultivated these vineyards before us. A philosophy complemented by other actions aimed at living in harmony with the environment and continuing to build the future of cava with respect.
