Anna Casabona is the second-best sommelier in Catalonia and third in Spain. We are honored to have her on our team as the sommelier of Juvé & Camps. Today we meet her at the Tasting Room of Celler d’Espiells, where she will soon conduct a tasting course as part of the events for “La Verema del Cava”.
Hello Anna, before we dive into other topics, when will this course take place and what will it be like?
Good morning! We are going to hold a tasting course on September 14th. It will be in the morning, from 11 am to 1 pm, and is suitable for all levels. I will lead the session at all times, revealing all my knowledge about the world of cava and addressing any questions the attendees may have. In addition to tasting different products, we will have the opportunity to do a grape tasting, something very curious and unique about these harvest dates.
We understand that it will be in a very special place with spectacular views…
I feel very privileged to be able to share my passion for cava in such an incomparable space. It is the Tasting Room of Celler d’Espiells. It is a professional tasting room, glass-enclosed and located in the heart of our vineyards in Penedès.
How can people attend this course?
The tasting course is open to everyone. Of course, as long as they are of legal age. It doesn’t matter what level you have, whether you have never attended a tasting or if you already have experience. I have designed this course to suit all kinds of profiles. To attend, you simply have to purchase a ticket through our official online store. Click here to access it.
What attracts you the most about sommellerie in the world of cava?
The world of bubbles has always attracted me a lot. When I joined the Juvé & Camps team, I was excited to delve deeper into the world of cava. It is a very versatile drink, which can accompany anything from an appetizer, through all the courses, to desserts, and even after-meal drinks. I think it is very interesting for sommeliers because it gives you great freedom and allows you to be very creative.
As we know, you are an expert in wines and cavas, with a long career. What are your current projects?
At the moment, I am a sommelier at Juvé & Camps, I have a degree in Enology, specialized in Sommellerie, and I have been a teacher for a few years at the Escola d’Enoturisme de Catalunya.
What do you recommend to wine lovers when it comes to tasting?
We must remember that behind a wine or a cava, there is a lot of work, from the vineyard to bottling and service. Many people are involved, including winegrowers, winemakers, harvesters, as well as elements of the terroir or the climate. When we taste a wine, we must be aware of all that background, focus on appreciating all the nuances, and, of course, enjoy. It is a very enjoyable experience but at the same time requires seriousness and concentration.
Thank you very much, Anna, we greatly value your extensive expertise and also appreciate your presence in the tasting course, which will surely be very interesting.
