La Capella 2012 marks a milestone in our winery as the new expression of our Cava de Paraje Calificado, made 100% from xarel·lo sourced from the heroic vineyard Clos La Capella, in Espiells. With only 0.7 hectares planted in 1981, this privileged site, facing south-southwest with gentle slopes, allows for balanced ripening and exceptional quality grapes, grown on shallow, sandy-loam soils at 210 meters above sea level.
Vintage 2012: balance and character
The year 2012 offered ideal climatic conditions: a warm May that accelerated vegetative growth, followed by a mild summer that facilitated slow and balanced ripening of the clusters. At that time, the vineyard was in ecological conversion, ensuring a natural balance with forests and margins that promote biodiversity, while respectful pruning and biological monitoring ensure the highest expression of xarel·lo.
Exceptional winemaking
Harvesting is carried out by hand at the optimal acidity, and the clusters are pressed whole to extract only the noblest must. After the initial fermentation, the wine rests on fine lees for three months before undergoing the second fermentation in bottle and a minimum 150-month aging. The result is a Brut Nature that reflects the authentic character of the terroir.
Tasting: complexity and elegance
On tasting, La Capella 2012 dazzles with its bright golden color and fine, persistent bubbles. The nose reveals a complex aromatic range: honey, candied fruits, nuts, toasted bread, candied citrus, and a subtle hint of truffle. On the palate, it is elegant and creamy, with lively acidity, harmonious progression, and a dry, persistent finish full of saline nuances.
La Capella 2012 is a tribute to the viticultural heritage of the Penedés and to xarel·lo, a wine that invites the celebration of patience and excellence in every sip.
